My K-beauty journey!

I could very well call my skincare journey the K-beauty journey! I could not call it anything else. Because before K-beauty happened, I had nothing much in my skincare routine. I used to try out products whichever caught my fancy, and that extended to face wash and scrubs.

Face masks were an integral part of my skincare right from my childhood. Every Indian mom will not leave their daughters alone if she doesn’t apply turmeric on her face. Turmeric, milk, Clay masks and many more things were always there for me, which I will speak in a separate blogpost.

So, I was doing okay with that simple routine. My skin was not perfect. It had occasional breakouts and I always applied only turmeric for it. I never cared how I looked. Even my make-up extended to Kajal and sunscreen. And lipstick on special days!

But that was going to change. I was bitten by the K-drama bug.

I used to spend hours watching continuous episodes and one thing that stuck me was the sheet mask! Also the food, but since this is supposedly a skincare blog, I will limit myself to sheet mask alone!

Most of the dramas had atleast one sheet mask placement in a episode, and believe me, I was intrigued!

I didn’t know it was called a sheet mask. Later when I was searching for something on the e-commerce platform, Flipkart, I came across a mask from the brand Dermal Collagen. It was 60 INR back then I guess. I used it and I liked it. But I didn’t use it again until I found stacks of sheet masks in a local store. It was a Chinese brand I think. Not Korean for sure because I can recognize the font.
Those masks were around 20INR, and I grabbed one in each to try it out. I liked them, and when I went for the second time those masks could not be found.  Eventhough I was not actively using them, I was following the k-beauty very seriously.

I got to know about various brands and my wishlist had items that varied from Missha’s BB cream to Etude House 0.2mm sheet masks. I really did not put efforts into buying them.

And suddenly one day I woke up with a pimple and I did not care less. It occurs every once in a while, and I never took much care of them. But within a week my face was a riot of pimples. It was actually very disturbing because I had a lot of special occasions to attend in the next few weeks and those stubborn ones didn’t seem to go away!

I tried my usual turmeric method. But it didn’t work that effectively. So I searched for methods online and came across various ones, and I bought myself a Biotique product which helped.

Though the pimple would disappear, a new one popped up, and it was a nightmare. All the acne journey and remedies deserve separate posts though!

So that was when The Face Shop launched on Amazon.in, and they were giving out a starter pack for 99 INR. It contained their Real Nature Rice and the Green tea ones. And also samples of their White seed cream and CC creams. Though CC creams didn’t suit me, I liked the texture. I also liked their Rice mask and the White seed cream. It made my face glow.

I felt that it was something different. For a girl whom the only cream she used was the Nivea cream, it was indeed a great finding.

After that I got a bunch of masks from them, and I enjoyed using that. The Ginseng one and the Calendula one really helped me with my skin. I started reading more and more and I learned a lot.

That was just the beginning of a long and wonderful journey which I will be sharing in this blog. Keep reading!
